Ever wondered how we got into TV blogging? Well, listener Patty did, as she left a comment June 11th, 2009 on Ep.32 that included the following question:
What got you into blogging about TV? Was it a particular show or did you blog before and just evolve into a TV blogger?
So, we decided to answer it on the podcast and we each briefly talked about how we got into TV blogging. Well, briefly may be understating it, but what else is new?
But, first we chatted about a few news items about T.R. Knight, Katherine Heigl, Brian Austin Green, and the swapping of The Wretched Beast and Gossip Girl on The CW Mondays this fall.
After covering our news and the topic, we talked a bit about Pushing Daisies, Primeval, Greek, The Closer, So You Think You Can Dance, Burn Notice, and Royal Pains.
Lastly, we talks briefly (there it is again) about some upcoming shows like ABC Family’s Make It or Break It and 10 Things I Hate About You and the ABC miniseries Impact.

Do you watch much foreign TV? Have a favorite British show? Ever wondered why networks always want to remake a foreign show instead of just replaying the original here? Well, a couple of listeners have, as you can see from the following topic suggestions.
Listener Jonathan left a comment May 12th, 2009 on Ep.28 that said:
Hey guys,
Cannot wait to listen, but here is my suggestion for a topic:
Why don’t we see more imported shows on network tv? Or even on cable channels?
Merlin is supposedly going to air on NBC (considering NBC co produced it, they SHOULD air it) but why don’t we see more hits on our television screens that are not just remakes?
A good example of this would be Packed to the rafters, a hit Australian dramady that is AMAZING, but instead of importing it and just airing the show in the states, they are trying to remake it.
Are we American’s so dumb we cannot stand to watch someone with an Australian accent?
Anyways downloading the podcast now! Can’t wait to listen and keep up the good work.
P.s. I know its probably a stupid subject to talk about but hey i had to suggest it lol.
Listener Shane used the contact form on May 22nd, 2009 to send in the following:
Hi, enjoy the show. Just listened to episode 29 and heard Amrie mention that you should do a show about British shows you like and I think that is a great idea. In the past coupleof years the amount of british tv I have been watching has grown and grown and I would like to know what shows from England you guys watch and maybe mention some classic british shows that you love.
My favourite shows from England at the moment are:
Being Human
FM
The In-Betweeners
Primeval
Ashes to Ashes
Skins
and my favourite at the moment is Gavin and Stacey. If you guys haven’t seen this show I would highly recommend you check it out.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy lives to entertain your listeners every week. it’s greatly appreciated.
So, we did a little thinking, or a lot in Rae’s case, about what foreign TV shows we have watched and enjoyed. We didn’t limit ourselves to just British shows either, as some Australian and Canadian TV shows figured into our lists.
But, first we batted around the idea of why we don’t see many hit shows from other countries play here in the United States and why we tend to see remakes of these shows.
After covering our double dose of topics, we talked a bit about Pushing Daisies, Greek, The Closer, Weeds, So You Think You Can Dance, and Burn Notice.

Have you ever thought about what shows you wish were still on? Ever thought that you could do better putting together a network schedule than the big TV network honchos do? Do you think about what shows would go together nicely on a given night? Well, we kind of tossed those ideas in a blender for this week’s topic, “Perfect Primetime,” after we got the following email from listener Mark Tilford, who wrote in on April 14th, 2009 to say:
Great podcast. Keep up the good work.
As a potential topic for a future show. How about programming your perfect night of primetime TV. Any shows from any year or network. A 3-hour programming block.
Mine would be.
7-7:30 Cheers
7:30-8 Sports Night
8-9 Gilmore Girls
9-10 West Wing (seasons 1-4, the Sorkin years)
We thought that was a great idea for a topic. So much so that we expanded it to seven days and programmed our perfect week of TV. That’s 22 hours to fill with any TV show, past or present. We started with a four-hour block on Sundays and moved through the rest of the week with a three-hour block for each night. Even after thinking about it for a week, we all still heard one of the others mention a show we’d forgotten to include.
Before we dove into the topic, we briefly mentioned some recent TV related news about The Beast, Burn Notice, and Royal Pains.
After covering our perfect primetimes, we covered Primeval, Greek, So You Think You Can Dance, Burn Notice season three premiere, Royal Pains series premiere, tosh.0 series premiere, The Listnener series premiere, and Conan’s first week taking over The Tonight Show.

This week, we talked about the topic sent in by listener Vanessa on March 24th, 2009. She wrote in to say:
I’ve loved the podcast since it began and thought it was time to toss in an idea for a show topic. It seems that my love of TV has started to diminish my enjoyment of some procedurals lately. I am already familiar with so many people that have been guest stars on procedurals, that I often am able to solve the “who dunit?” just by who is cast. Take for example last week’s Castle (spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it!). Sarah Drew of Everwood fame was a guest star. As soon as she was questioned, I knew she played a role in the crime. Why else would she have accepted the role if it wasn’t major to the story? Have you found this a problem for any of you as well? This turned into a long rambling question, but maybe you will find interest in it. Love the show!
So, we gave our thoughts on guest stars that guest star on lots of shows, thus ruining any suspense as to who the killer might be on a procedural. This also turned into talking a bit about knowing too much outside information about a show.
But, first we chatted about some recent TV related news about American Idol winner Chris Allen, Monk and Psych premiere dates, Big Brother premiere date, recasting on some fall pilots, and Better Off Ted returning for summer.
Then, we did a brief primetime wrap-up, where we talked about the Primeval, Greek, Mental series premiere, My Boys season three finale, and So You Think You Can Dance.
Lastly, we gave a few recommendations for some upcoming summer shows. Find out are thoughts on the season three premiere of Burn Notice and the series premieres of HawthoRNe, Nurse Jackie, and Royal Pains.

This week, we weighed in on the announcements last week by ABC, CBS, The CW, FOX, and NBC about what new shows will be debuting, what shows will be returning, and what shows won’t on the Fall 2009 TV Schedule. We each talked about the shows we think have potential, what shows we will miss, and what shows have moved where. Last week we talked about what looks good for Summer 2009 TV.
Since the networks’ announcements were the news, we pretty much just jumped right in with thoughts on the Fall 2009 TV Schedule. We went network-by-network and talked about what ABC, CBS, The CW, FOX, and NBC have in store for us this fall. Shows we touched on included Community, Cougar Town, Day One, Dollhouse, Flash Forward, The Forgotten, Fringe, Glee, The Mentalist, Three Rivers, and many others.
Lastly, we did a brief primetime wrap-up, where we talked about the season finales of Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, and Prison Break.

This week, we ventured away from our ever-growing list of topic ideas, please keep sending them in, to talk about Summer 2009 TV. We talked about what the networks and cable outlets have ready to go for summer. There is actually a lot of good stuff, although mainly on cable.
We started things off with a few news items and then moved on to the topic, our Summer TV Preview 2009. We went day by day and talked about what ABC, NBC, CBS, The CW, and NBC had in store followed by what would be available on cable. Shows we touched on included Army Wives, Burn Notice, The Closer, Dark Blue, Hung, Leverage, Nurse Jackie, The Philanthropist, Psych, Saving Grace, and many others.
Lastly, we moved on to our primetime wrap-up, where we talked about the season finales of The Amazing Race, Fringe, Lost, and The Office.
Next time we will be discussing the 2009 Upfronts, where the networks officially announce what shows will be returning, which ones won’t, and what new shows will debut this fall.

Speaking of accents… Thanks to Chris Vaughn that’s what we’re doing! We talk about some of the shows right now that have characters played by people who aren’t from the United States and have to disguise their accents as a result. Should more of them be permitted to use their natural accents? Why aren’t they? We’ve got some ideas and Amrie even rates who she think covers his/her accent best and who doesn’t.
We also pick out TV news from the past week that we think deserves highlighting and then get into our usual primetime discussion. This time we cover recent episodes of The Amazing Race, Greek, How I Met Your Mother, Fringe, Lost, Scrubs, and Grey’s Anatomy.
And when it’s all over, stick around for the outtakes. We got a little silly this time around and couldn’t pick just one to share.
Next time we’ll be previewing your summer viewing options. If you’ve got thoughts on past episodes, this episode, or have a topic suggestion for us, use the SnapVine widget in the right column, leave a comment below, email us, or connect via Twitter.

This week, the TV triumvirate was back together again. We talked about what seems to be a lack of good ethnic shows on TV recently. Listener Brian Hunt wondered why there seemed to be more African American sitcoms during the ’70s into the early ’90s, like The Cosby Show and Good Times. He posited that “racism was still very prevalent” back then, but now “America is much more excepting” and wanted to know why there is “such a lack of good ethnic TV shows” nowadays?
We started things off with a few news items about The Celebrity Apprentice, Disney/ABC joining Hulu, Roommates, Harper’s Island, Southland, and Chuck.
Then we moved on to the topic, which included talking about shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, A Different World, Everybody Hates Chris and many others, along with the ones mentioned above.
Lastly, we moved on to our primetime wrap-up, where we talked about The Amazing Race, Chuck, Fringe, Lost, and Dollhouse.
Next time we will be discussing actors, like Hugh Laurie (House), playing roles where they don’t use their natural accent. This week, Rae was off camping, so Amrie and Jason had on a guest host to talk about the week in TV. Myles McNutt from Cultural Learnings and the new McNuttCast joined us for what turned out to be a rather lengthy, but really fun, discussion.
We started things off with some news about Kings, The Tudors, Army Wives, Project Runway, the SAG negotiations, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Then we moved on to the topic of TV shows in decline and whether they actually are or we just think they are. Shows discussed included Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, and Heroes.
After talking show declines, we moved on to our primetime wrap-up, where we talked about Chuck, Greek, Fringe, My Boys, The Office, Parks & Recreation, and 30 Rock.
Next time all three of us will be back together again and we’d like to hear from you. So, if you’ve got thoughts on past episodes, this episode, or have a topic suggestion for us, use the SnapVine widget in the right column, leave a comment below, email us, or connect via Twitter.
